Her life:
Sharon Creech was born in 1945 and grew up with four siblings in the Cleveland area of Northeast, Ohio. Her family’s trips growing up influence her stories. Where she has lived as an adult (Switzerland, England, and the U.S.) also influences her writing. Right now, she lives in Maine and the inspiration she gained from that state led to her most recent published book, Moo. Her husband, Lyle Riggs, was the photographer of the image of Sharon Creech you see above. She has two grown-up children and you can also hear her tell a story about her grandchild in a video on the Resources page of this site. She enjoys being outdoors and spending time with her family.
Her writing:
She started writing books for adults but then transitioned to writing books like Absolutely Normal Chaos, Walk Two Moons, Pleasing the Ghost, Chasing Redbird, and Bloomability. All five of these books, plus a play and the two books for adults, were published from 1990-1999 alone, and Sharon has continued to have books published almost every year since. Her novels have small elements of magical realism or fantasy and she also writes poetry, in addition to being active online in written blog and Twitter posts. and she plans to keep writing for a long time to come!
